HemingwayDesign were tasked with conceiving and articulating the exterior detail and interiors of the new “Tech Park” at the University of Chichester. We drew inspiration from traditional Sussex building methods to design a knapped flint exterior, whilst the interiors are driven by a modern material palette. Site-cast concrete is softened through oak detailing, birch ply cladding and linear acoustic baffles.
Collaborative learning spaces and a technology workshop help embrace the University’s commitment to providing a research-based framework. Beyond providing resources for academic staff to improve their own abilities, the building reflects the University’s use of active education tools, such as problem-based learning and group work.
