Green Hills, Blackburn was the first time we had the opportunity to design a housing project in North East Lancashire – a place close to our hearts as Gerardine and Wayne’s motherland – and the first time working alongside IDPartnership in over a decade after designing the award winning Staiths South Bank development in Gateshead.
With rural courtyards, shared green spaces and two interlinking village greens, the site will ultimately see up to 185 homes developed by Kingswood Homes. The Homes built in a series of small blocks – planning based on traditional Lancashire farmsteads – are designed to respect and celebrate the Pennine location with a use of authentic and local materials, whilst utilising modern functionality and detailing to provide a contemporary take on traditional Lancashire barns. Nothing about Green Hills is standard, the first phase alone includes 41 bespoke house types, built with larger than average living spaces and materials that reflect the semi – rural location.
Construction of the first phase of 61 homes commenced in early 2017. In January 2018, the show homes launched and the development won the award for ‘Large Housing Development of the Year’ at the Insider North West Residential Property Awards 2018 and has been awarded ‘Best Residential Development’ at the LABC NW Building Excellence Awards 2019.
